And-Or is a modular footwear system that encourages repair, personalization and reduction in overconsumption with its interchangeable components that are adaptable for different environments. The system features a connector, sole and rain cover, allowing users to customize their footwear for wet-weather protection to lightweight summer conditions. Through its adaptable design and emphasis on longevity, our main intention was to challenge traditional consumption patterns by encouraging users to maintain, repair, and evolve a single pair of shoes over time.
Role & Process: I collaborated with Matthew Situ and Eliana Nicole Carlos on concept development, iterative form exploration, and 3D modeling in Rhino. My primary focus included material research, user testing, and pattern construction for the modular upper. The process involved refining ergonomic considerations, experimenting with 3D-printed TPU components, and testing multiple pattern iterations to ensure comfort and compatibility between layers. Key prototyping phases included failed and successful TPU prints, PLA form studies, and assembly trials using technical fabrics, Bemis tape, cord systems, foam, and hardware.
